The shift: Frontier models now treat text, images, audio, and video as unified input — not separate modalities bolted together with different models.

The difference: Not "language model + vision model + voice model" stitched together, but single architectures trained to reason across modalities simultaneously.

AI That Watches Your Screen

The concept: AI assistants that can observe your screen in real-time and provide contextual assistance.

The privacy consideration: Real-time processing with no video stored. But the surveillance implications are worth considering carefully.

The direction: AI models that can process physical environment inputs — camera feeds, sensor data, location context — and reason about the real world.

The demos: AI-powered robots navigating unfamiliar environments, identifying objects, and completing multi-step physical tasks.

The reality check: Demo environments are controlled. Real-world robustness is unproven.

The trajectory: AI that understands physical environments, not just digital documents. The path to useful robotics.

Deep Dive: Why Multimodality Matters

The Limitation of Text-Only AI

Human communication is multimodal. We point, we draw, we show. Forcing everything through text is unnatural and lossy.

Context is often visual. Explaining a bug in code is harder than showing it. Describing a design is worse than showing a mockup.

Some information is inherently non-textual. Diagrams, charts, interfaces, physical objects — describing them in text loses information.
